Ernest F. Hartz

Ernest F. Hartz, 89, who has been true and faithful to his Lord and Savior, went to be with his Master at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law on Ireland Road, South Bend, Ind. He was born on Jan. 5, 1910, in South Bend, to the late Fred J. Hartz and Bertha (Noe) Hartz.

 

On Sept. 30, 1933, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Amma Bernice Smith. She went to be with her Master on July 16, 1994. He is survived by his son, Alden James (Sharon Rose) Hartz; two granddaughters, Lurleen M. Minder of Fort Worth, Texas, and Valeen K. Vogel of Mishawaka, Ind.; a grandson, James Alden Hartz of South Bend; two great-grandchildren, Lace C. Minder and Tyler J. Hartz, and another great-grandchild due this fall from the Vogels; and by two sisters, Elizabeth F. Heming of South Bend and Gertrude C. Albert of Niles, Mich.

 

Ernest ''Ernie'' was committed to serving his Lord and church to the utmost. He enjoyed reading his Bible, gardening, and the outdoors. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as all family members. Ernie retired from the Bendix Corporation in 1972 after 30 years of employment.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, and one hour prior to services at the church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in Lighthouse Baptist Church, 3050 E. Edison Road, South Bend (near the corner of Rockne Drive). He was a member of the church. Daniel Scarberry will officiate. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Memorials may be made to Harbor Light Hospice in South Bend, or to Lighthouse Baptist Church, South Bend.
