Curtis R. Hayes, 78, of 705 N. Eddy Street, died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday in his home, after an extended illness. He was a retired Singer Manufacturing company employee. Born July 18, 1897, in Parke County, he had lived here since 1940, moving from Terre Haute.

On Aug. 16, 1954, in Rochester, he married Mary E. Quimby, who survives. Also surviving are 10 stepchildren; 27 step-grandchildren; 29 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Grace Barrick of Cloverdale, Ind. and a brother Herman of South Bend.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Rev. Max B. Hayden, pastor of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ. will officiate Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Tuesday in the funeral home.
