Mary E. Quimby-Hayes

Dec. 16, 1891 - Sept. 21, 1999

Mary E. Quimby-Hayes, 107, of Pine Lake Road, Edwardsburg, Mich., formerly of North Eddy, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at her residence.

She was born on Dec. 16, 1891, in Royal Center, Ind., to the late John E. and Matilda K. (Smith) Hoover. On Oct. 29, 1910, in Winamac, Ind., she married Ralph W. Quimby, who preceded her in death on June 11, 1952. Then on Aug. 16, 1954, in South Bend, she married Curtis Hayes, who passed away in December 1975. She was also preceded in death by three daughters, three sons, three sisters and four brothers.

She came to South Bend in 1910 from Royal Center and resided here until moving to Edwardsburg four years ago. Mary was employed at the Blue Ribbon Pie Shop and Zikers Cleaners in South Bend.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by three daughters, Lillian Katona of Dade City, Fla., Mary L. Whiting of South Bend and Pat Reader of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, Lester Quimby of South Bend, John Quimby of Dade City and Ralph Quimby of Mishawaka, Ind.; and by 32 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hayes will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Don Francis will officiate. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, in the Palmer Funeral Home.
