South Bend Tribune 12/22/2004

Eugene Hazinski, 79, of Mishawaka, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 21, 2004, in his home. Gene was born August 6, 1925, in South Bend, a son of Lott and Victoria (Kaczakowski) Hazinski.

He grew up in South Bend, and on October 13, 1951, in St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka, he married Virginia M. Arndt. The couple made their home in Mishawaka where they raised their family. Gene was employed for 39 years at White Farm Equipment (formerly Oliver Corporation), retiring as a tool & die maker in 1985. He then worked for four years at Eberhart Steel Products. Gene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, the Z.B. Falcons in South Bend, and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. In his younger days he enjoyed bowling and coaching East End Little League. Gene was an avid golfer, playing several times a week. He was very handy and particularly liked making things out of wood. Gene enjoyed gardening and found relaxation in playing the organ.

Most of all, Gene's family brought the most joy to his life. They include his wife of 53 years, Virginia; three children, Victoria "Vicki" H. (Stephen) Geschke of Mishawaka, Robert E. Hazinski of South Bend and Thomas A. (Leslie) Hazinski of Beach Park, Illinois; three sisters, Gertrude Gadacz, Genevieve Anderson and Angela Gucza, all of South Bend; and eight grandchildren, Madeline Grace Geschke, Christian Evan Geschke, Misty Marie Hazinski, Amanda Marie Hazinski, Colette Marie Hazinski, Meredith Claire Hazinski, Anthony Joseph Hazinski and Richard James Hazinski. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Esther Jurgonski and Helen Lekaraczyk; and by a brother, Anthony Hazinski.

Friends may spend time with Gene's family today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to the American Cancer Society.
