Sister Maria Beata Heany CSC, 80, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 1 a.m. Sunday in the convent. She was born Dec. 1, 1912 in Washington DC as Mary Grace Heany. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Feb. 2, 1932; was received as a novice Aug. 15, 1932 and professed her vows on Aug. 15, 1934. She was assigned to teaching in elementary grades from 1944 to 1947 and secondary grades and librarian from 1947 to 1958.; and became library director of Dunbarton College. She served at schools in Washington DC; New York City; Pennsylvania; and Virginia until 1991, retiring from St. Angela Hall, Kensington, Md. coming to St. Mary’s in 1991.

 

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, with burial following in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both at St. Mary’s. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday in the convent parlors where a wake will be at 7 p.m.
