Sister M. Hughetta Heavey CSC

Sister M. Hughetta CSC, died early Sunday morning in St. Joseph Hospital after a brief illness. She was born Anney Heavey in Ireland in 1890, the daughter of Michael Heavey and Bridget Quinn Heavey. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1915 and received the habit of the sisterhood the same year. She made her profession of final vows in 1920. During her community life Sister Hughetta served at Harvard, Chatsworth, Chicago and Woodstock, Ill., LaPorte, Hammond and St. Mary’s in South Bend, and at Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her most recent assignment was at the Provincial House in South Bend, where she served until this month.

 

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. James Murray of Chicago, and Mrs. Marie Cunningham and Mrs. Margaret McLaughlin, both of Galway, Ireland, and three brothers, Luke Heavey of Chicago, James Heavey of Galway, and Martin Heavey of Yorkshire, England.

 

A requiem high mass will be offered in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery there. Friends may call in the convent parlor.
