MISHAWAKA - Sister M. Alwinia Heinemann OSF, 86, of Our Lady of the Angels, St. Francis Convent, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the convent. Sister Heinemann was a registered nurse. Her last mission was St. Anthony Medical Center, Louisville, Ky., from 1956 until her retirement in 1985. She was born April 21, 1908, in Kickenbach, Germany, as Anna Heinemann. She came to the United States in November 1934.

 

She entered the convent in 1931 in Olpe, Germany, and received her Franciscan habit on Oct. 15, 1932. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Josef Luke and Mrs. Robert Hellen, and her brother, Ernest Heinemann, all of Germany. She was a pioneer in family-centered maternity care in the 1950s in the Louisville area.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Convent Chapel. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. A wake will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the convent chapel. Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
