SOUTH BEND - Howard E. Heintzelman, 77, of Peru, Ind., formerly of South Bend, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday in Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Indianapolis. Mr. Heintzelman was self-employed in maintenance. He was born Dec. 26, 1916, in South Bend, and lived in South Bend most of his life.
He is survived by a son, Gerald L. of Petersburg, Va.; a sister, Elayne Palmer of South Bend; and a brother, Clyde ''Pokey'' of South Bend. He was a veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call two hours before services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.
