Sr. Mary Claire Hennion

Sister Mary Claire Hennion, OSU, 89, the former Clara Marie Hennion, a member of the Ursuline Convent in Toledo, OH, for 74 years, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Ursuline Center, Toledo.

Sister Mary Claire entered the Ursuline Community from Sacred Heart Parish in South Bend, Sept. 7, 1930. She professed her final vows in April 1936. She received her bachelor of science degree from the former DeSales College in Toledo and her master of arts degree from St. Mary's College, South Bend. Sister did post-graduate work at Seton Hall University, the University of Notre Dame, St. John University, and clinical pastoral care at St. Vincent Medical Center.

Sister Mary Claire began her ministry in education at Good Shepherd School. She also taught in Perrysburg St. Rose, Tiffin St. Joseph, Lima St. Gerard and Nazareth Hall in Grand Rapids, OH. Sister served in the following Toledo diocesan schools of St. Teresa, St. Patrick Historic, St. Charles, St. Angela Hall, Rosary Cathedral and St. John Point Place. After about 26 years in elementary schools, Sister taught theology at the former Mary Manse College for nine years. Her next career took her into pastoral care work at St. Vincent Hospital for 13 years. After her retirement, Sister Mary Claire was part-time receptionist at the Ursuline Center where she lived for the past 14 years.

Sister Mary Claire is survived by her nephew, Robert J. Hennion, and his wife, Carol of South Bend, other nieces and nephews, and the sisters of the Ursuline community.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents, Rene Charles and Elodie Hennion; brothers, George and Joseph Hennion; and by her sister, Helen Hennion Cook.

Visitation and services were held in Toledo.
