Alice C. Hennion

Alice C. Hennion, 87, of East LaSalle Avenue, South Bend, passed away at 3:10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18 in Regency Place.

 

She was born on March 13, 1913 in South Bend. She was employed at St. Joseph Hospital as a registered nurse, but spent most of her adult life as a homemaker.

On Aug 23, 1933, at Notre Dame, she married George F. Hennion, PhD, who held the Father J.A. Nieuland Chair in Chemistry at Notre Dame. He passed away March 29, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a son, John Robert.

 

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Claire Gassensmith and Margaret A. Filchak, both of the Bend area, and Alice C. Robinson of Roscoe, Ill.; a son George F, Hennion of Long Beach, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Cathy Cecrie, Jon Clauss, Laura Bartley, Mark Clauss, John Hennion, Jennifer Rouch, Julie Orta, Dan Flichak, Patrick Clauss, Ken Filchak, Katie Foster, Laura Robinson; and by 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hennion was a 1931 graduate of the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Parish, belonged to the Altar Society of the church, and the Ladies of Notre Dame.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, where there will be a combined wake service at 3:30 p.m. by the Altar Society and the parish.

 

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend with burial in Highland Cemetery.

 

Memorials may be made to the Healing Arts Center on the River or to a charity of donors of choice.
