Dec. 15, 1936 - July 28, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Ronald J. Henry, 71, of South Bend, formerly of Miami, FL, and Buffalo, NY, passed away on July 28th in his residence in South Bend. Mr. Henry was born on December 15, 1936, in Buffalo, NY, and had resided in the South Bend area for one year, coming from Miami, FL. Ron is survived by a daughter, Kim D. Connor of Miami, and a son, Ronald M. (Barbara) Henry of South Bend. Also surviving are two grandchildren, whom he loved and cherished, Matthew T. Henry and Kristina Connor. Mr. Henry grew up in Buffalo, NY, and graduated from Kensington High School where he was co-captain of his football and track teams. He made All High Football Squad and was one of the best football players in the area. Upon completion of high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, becoming a sergeant and serving on the Marine Honor Guard, assigned to special duty in Rhode Island while President Eisenhower was vacationing there. Mr. Henry was very proud to be a Marine and served during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he joined the Miami Police Dept. where he retired as a accident investigator. His son, Ron, also retired from the Miami Police Dept. When his son Ron retired, he moved to South Bend and told his father to come along which his father did not hesitate to do, due to the fact they are avid Notre Dame fans. Mr. Henry was an honorable man, loved his family, country and, of course, Notre Dame. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and all who had the opportunity to know him during his life journey. Private service will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 8, in Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Rev. Paul Doyle from the University of Note Dame will officiate and burial will be private, family only. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to the Monogram Club, University of Notre Dame. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Henry family.
