Charles E. Hensley

NORTH LIBERTY - Charles E. Hensley, 86, of North Liberty, IN, passed away after an extended illness at 3:49 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25th, in Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Center, Walkerton, IN. Mr. Hensley was born on March 8, 1922, in Puxico, MO, and had resided in the Michiana area his lifetime. On December 30, 1960, in North Liberty, IN, he married the former Helen L. Burnett O'Connor, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra L. Allegood of Fayetteville, NC, and Diane G. Mathews of Hope Mills, NC; three stepdaughters, Sue A. (Dennis) Lemert of North Liberty, IN, Sandra R. (Wayne) Tumbleson of Lakeville and Barbara L. (Vaughn) Eastburn of North Liberty, IN; a son, Barry C. Hensley of Fayetteville, NC; and a stepson, Terry L. (Janice) O'Connor of South Bend. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren, whom he loved and cherished. Charles was preceded in death by three sisters, Madeline Verniest, Mary Lou Bromeling and Hazel Mae Hensley; and by four brothers, Hubbard, William, Hubert and Hobart Hensley. Mr. Hensley retired from Wells Aluminum in North Liberty after 26 1/2 years service. He had also worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps during The Depression. Charles loved to go mushroom hunting and fishing, and just loved the outdoors. He and his loving wife were members of the North Liberty Church of Christ. He was a former Elder and taught Sunday School. He was a faithful Christian who served the Lord well. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the North Liberty Church of Christ, 65225 State Road #23, North Liberty, IN. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28th, in the church, with Pastor Tim Stewart officiating. Burial to follow at Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. The HANLEY & Sons Funeral Home "Walkerton Chapel" handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Hensley family.
