Sister Marianna Heppen CSC, 71, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 8 a.m. today in her residence. She was born Patricia Frances Heppen on April 21, 1918 in Anderson, Ind. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Jan. 31, 1939; was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1939; and professed her vows on Aug. 15, 1941. She served as a teacher in Michigan City and Danville, Ill.; taught from 1840 to 1948 at St. Joseph Grade School in South Bend; served as assistant to the mistress of novices from 1848 to 1957; and was director of scholastics from 1957 to 1966. She had other teaching assignments and was dean of students from 1969 to 1972 at the former St. Mary’s Academy in South Bend; and was assistant hall director and switchboard operator at St. Mary’s College until the time of her death. Survivors include a brother, Rev. Michael Heppen CSC of Notre Dame.

 

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, with burial following in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both at St. Mary’s. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday in the convent parlors where a wake will be at 7 p.m.
