Arthur A. Hertel

Jan. 26, 1910 - Nov. 29, 2002

Arthur A. Hertel, 92, E. 12th St., Mishawaka, died at 7:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in Countryside Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an illness.

Mr. Hertel was born Jan. 26, 1910, in South Bend to the late Leonard and Marie (Jacobson) Hertel and was a lifetime area resident. On July 2, 1936, in Zion Evangelical Church, South Bend, he married Marguerite V. Hafstrom who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Marilyn (Ron "Chuck") Tohulka of Mishawaka, Ind.; four grandchildren, Adam Tohulka, Tammy (Tom) Meuzelaar, Crystal (John) Moskwinski, and Rhonda (Jeff) Johnson Jr.; and eight great-grandchildren, Jacob Meuzelaar, Randall, Joseph and Timothy Workman and Deion, Zachary, Sean and Wesley Johnson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther James and Ruth Hertel. Mr. Hertel retired in 1975 from South Bend Tool and Die as a tool and died maker after 28 years service. He was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #235, Loyal Order of Moose #58 and Maenerchoir Club, all of South Bend. He enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, dancing, ice skating, golf, fishing, crossword puzzles and horseshoes.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. with Rev. Kendall Dahlstrom of Evangelical Covenant Church officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 2 in the funeral home.
