Walter J. (Mike) Hertle (Hertel), 39, well known meat cutter and operator of a market here for a number of years, died at 1:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at his home, 601 North Fifth street, of complications. He had been in failing health for more than a year and seriously ill for the past few weeks.

Mr. Hertle (Hertel) was born at Fremont Center, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hertle (Hertel). He had resided in Goshen for the past 30 years. Mrs. (Mr.) Hertle (Hertel) was a member of St. John’s Catholic church and the Elks.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth E. Hertle (Hertel), three daughters, Treva, Patricia and Joanne, two sons, Donald and Walter John, his mother, Mrs. Mary Wortinger, of South Bend, three brothers, Raymond of Chicago, Paul of South Bend, and Norbert, of Seattle, Wash., and six sisters, Sister Ivan of Los Angeles, Sister John Michael of St. Mary’s near South Bend, Sister Clara Marie of Chicago, Hildegarde Hertle (Hertel) of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Helen Irish of Seattle and Angela Hertle (Hertel) of South Bend.

Funeral Services will be held at 9 o’clock Saturday morning at St. John’s Catholic church. The Rev. Fr. Herman Miller will officiate. Burial will be made in Oakridge cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the hour of the service.
