Sister Amadeo Heupel CSC, 75, of St. Mary’s Convent, died Wednesday afternoon in the convent. She was born in 1897 in Buffalo Center, Iowa, and spent her childhood in LaPorte. She entered the Holy Cross order in 1915. She graduated from St. Mary’s College and received her graduate degrees in biology from the University of Notre Dame and in nursing from Catholic University of Amerina in Washingto DC. She was stationed 10 years at Mt. Carmel Hospital, Mt. Carmel, Ill., where she was director of nurses. She established the Department of Nursing at St. Mary’s College and headed the department from 1935 to 1962. After her retirement, as professor emertius at St. Mary’s College, she continued to be active in the science department.

 

Friends may call in the convent where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today. Services will be at p a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Loretto Church with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery..
