Jon R. Hickey

Aug. 17, 1938 - Feb. 8, 2003

Jon Richard Hickey, 64, of Brookview Court, died Saturday morning, Feb. 8, in his home. Jon recently retired from the Business Communication Center, formerly the Royal Typewriter Company, after 41 years.

Jon was born Aug. 17, 1938, in South Bend, Ind., to Melville and Leona (Schroer) Hickey, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Thomas W.

On Oct. 21, 1961, in South Bend, he married Theresa "Terry" Niezgodski, who survives. He is also survived by three children, Julieann Marie, Jon Michael and Traci Lynn; four grandchildren, Michelle Marie, Michael, Brandon and Katelynn; and by an aunt, Genevieve Reading of Manchester, Mass.

Jon graduated from the former South Bend Central High School in 1957. He served in the United States Marine Corps for four years, was past president of the former South Bend Turners, and was an active member of the Roseland Rotary Club. Jon enjoyed golf, working on his yard and garden, bowling, his many friends and family, and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed!

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

We would like to thank all of the wonderful people of Hospice of St. Joseph County and especially his nurse, Sue Mueller, who is a very compassionate person, for all the support she gave us during our sad time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637, so they may continue their wonderful work with other cancer patients. Jon was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
