Melvin J. Hickey

Friends of Melvin J. Hickey, 46, of 2701 Milburn Blvd, Mishawaka, who died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital after an apparent heart attack may call after 7 p.m. today in the Orvis Funeral Home. He retired as a fireman at the South Bend Fire Department in 1968, and was employed as a messenger for the National Bank and Trust Co. before his death. He was born May 13, 1922 in South Bend and had lived in the area all his life.

 

On Jan. 13, 1968 in Niles, he married Jacqueline Phillips who survives. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin E. Hickey of South Bend; a son Lee of South Bend; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Kinzey of Oscoda, Mich.; two brothers, Jon R. of South Bend, and Thomas W. of Hyattesville, Md.

 

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Schroer, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. He was a retired member of the International Assoc. of Firefighters; a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. Memorials donations mey be given to the St. Joseph County Heart Fund.
