Hazel M. Hickman, 81, of West 10th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. Mrs. Hickman was born on Sept. 19, 1917, in Mishawaka, as the daughter of the late David and Anna (Keifar) Washburn. She was a lifetime area resident.

 

On Nov. 14, 1938, in Valparaiso, Ind., as Hazel Washburn, she married George Arnold, who preceded her in death on March 29, 1961. On Sept. 30, 1972, in Mishawaka, she married Herschel Hickman, who preceded her in death on April 16, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Riffle; and by a brother, Charles Washburn. Mrs. Hickman is survived by a sister, Addie Trumbel of Elkhart, Ind.; two nieces, Mary Cabanaw and Marjorie Witt both of South Bend, Ind.; four nephews, Don (Marti) Riffle of Mishawaka, Jerry (Nancy) Riffle of Syracuse, Ind., Elmer Trumbel and Larry Washburn, both of Cassopolis, Mich.; and by many step grandchildren, step nieces and nephews.

 

She was employed by St. Mary's College for 15 years. She retired from Memorial Hospital in 1978, after 15 years of service. Mrs. Hickman was a member of Ireland Road Church of God, Mishawaka, and a member of the Women's Retirement Group from Memorial Hospital.

 

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home, with Rev. Mark Black officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
