Sister M. John Francis Hilleke CSC, 92, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday in the convent. She was born May Alice Hilleke on May 23, 1897 in Augusta, Ga. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on Jan. 6, 1920 coming from Ehsley, Ala. He was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1920 and professed her vows on Aug. 15, 1922. She is survived by a sister and a brother. She was assigned as secondary and college teacheer and school nurse. From 1921 to 1926 she served at St. Cecelia’s Academy, Washington DC; 1926 to 1931, Sacred Heart Academy, Ogden, Utah; 1936 to 1940, St. Mary’s Academy, Notre Dame; 1940 to 1943, St. Joseph Academy, South Bend; 1943 to 1949, St. John’s Hospital, Anderson, Ind.; 1949 to 1951, Our Saviour’s Hospital, Jacksonville, Ill.; and 1951 to 1975, the former St. Joseph Hospital and Holy Cross School of Nursing, South Bend.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Church of Loretto with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. St. Mary’s. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday in the convent, where a wake service will be at 7 p.m.
