Mildred Hill

July 28, 1919 - Nov. 4, 1999

South Bend Tribune 11/7/1999

Mildred (Cressy) Hill, 80, passed into eternal life on Thursday morning, Nov. 4, at home in the presence of her loving family. Mildred was born on July 28, 1919, to the late Sidney and Marie Pearson Cressy. Among those other family members who welcome her into new life are her beloved husband of 37 years, Eugene Lewis, who went to be with the Lord in 1977; brothers, George and James Cressy; and sisters, Mary Louise Miller and Evelyn Firth.

She lives on in her brother, Clifford and his wife, Marilyn Cressy; her daughter, Gwenyth, and husband, John DeLee; and her son, Malcolm, and wife, Kay Hill. Also cherishing her memory are her brothers-in-law, Clement Miller and Robert Firth, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Jackie Cressy Baxter and Angela Cressy; grandchildren, Phillip (Monique) DeLee, Patricia DeLee, Paul (Amy) DeLee, Michelle DeLee (Mark) Hamilton, Margaret DeLee (Tom) Clare, Stacy Hill, Kevin and Susan Hill, Chrisa Hill; and eight great-grandchildren who she treasured with all her heart.

Mildred was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish at Notre Dame, and the People of Praise Christian community. She was a gifted artist, and very active in the lives of all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She delighted in hosting countless wedding and baby showers for her many friends and relatives. Her generous and loving presence will be missed by all who love her so dearly.

Visitation will take place beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8th, in the LaSalle Building at 237 N. Michigan in downtown South Bend, with a prayer, worship and sharing service at 7:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Reverend Paul Doyle, C.S.C., Reverend John Riley, C.S.C., and Deacon Paul J. DeCelles. The Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the Notre Dame campus. Burial services will immediately follow in Riverview Cemetery.

Since Mildred's life was an example of service and devotion made to family life, it is requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Home Management Services, a not-for-profit organization located at 237 N. Michigan, South Bend, IN 46601. The McGann Funeral Homes was entrusted with arrangements.
