Delmar H. Hobkirk

Dec. 15, 1913 - Jan. 4, 1999

MISHAWAKA - Delmar H. Hobkirk, 85, of West Seventh Street, passed away after an illness at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka.

Mr. Hobkirk was born on Dec. 15, 1913, in Warnersburg, Ill., as the son of the late John and Lillie (Southurn) Hobkirk.

On July 15, 1939, in South Bend, Ind., Delmar married the former Elsie M. Schelstraete, who survives.

He is also survived by two sons Ronald (Karen) Hobkirk and John (Roni) Hobkirk, both of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren, Terri Davidson, Sherri Wanberg, Kimberly Vincent, Angela Goodwyn, Jennifer McGee, Delmar Hobkirk, Jeffrey Hobkirk and Ryan Hobkirk; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita (Dean) Austin of South Bend; and by a brother, Don Hobkirk of Palm Desert, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Bruggner.

Mr. Hobkirk retired from B & P Motor Express in 1975 after 37 years of employment. He was a member of the Teamsters Retiree Club, and enjoyed Notre Dame football and Chicago Cubs baseball.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home, with Rev. David Honeycutt of the Deer Run Church of Christ, South Bend, officiating.
