Richard Hoffman

SOUTH BEND - Richard Hoffman, 82, of Beale Street in South Bend, died Tuesday evening, January 30, in his home. He was a design engineer for Holbert Engineering, retiring at age 72. Richard was born April 12, 1924, in South Bend, to Valentine and Louise (Janecki) Hoffman.

On June 10, 1978, in Elkhart, he married Charlotte (White) Pickett, who survives along with two daughters, Victoria Ross of Granger and Kim Pickett of South Bend; two sons, Jerome and Kipp Hoffman, both of South Bend; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Chester Hoffman of South Bend.

Richard graduated from South Bend Central High School and served in the Army during World War II in the Asian-Pacific Theater. He was a member of the VFW. Richard was an avid fisherman, a little league umpire, and received a golden glove in Bengal Bouts Boxing at Notre Dame.

There will be no services or visitation. Memorials for Richard may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The HICKEY Funeral Homes and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
