SOUTH BEND - Thomas E. Hoffman, 71, of Northome, Minn., formerly of South Bend, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Northome Healthcare Center of natural causes. Mr. Hoffman retired in 1983 as manager of Kmart on McKinley Avenue. He was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Jackson, Mich., and lived here from 1964 to 1994 before moving to Minnesota.

 

In 1948, he married Anna Brush. She died in 1988. Surviving are two daughters, Ethel Hesch and Annetta Shaw, both Bemidji, Minn.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Ceceille Smoker of Lansing, Mary Pangborn of Glendale, Ariz., and Janet Duffy of Jackson; and two brothers, Robert of East Tawas, Mich., and Vincent of East Lansing, Mich. A son, Thomas, died in 1981. He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church and was a World War II Navy veteran.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive. Memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson's Disease Association.
