SOUTH BEND - Rita Ann Hoggard, 64, passed away following an illness at 5:26 AM Monday, June 23, 2008, in Memorial Hospital,. She was born on September 8, 1943, to the late Harry and Ruth (Evans) Kern in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Hoggard retired on June 1, 2008, from the Memorial Hospital N.I.C.U. where she had worked as an R.N. for 42 years.

On July 3, 1965, as Rita Ann Kern, she married Lee R. Hoggard in New Carlisle. She is survived by her husband, Lee R. Hoggard of South Bend; one daughter, Julie A. Hoggard of South Bend; two sons, Brian L. Hoggard of South Bend and Scott J. (Erica) Hoggard of South Bend; three grandchildren, Collin, Owen and Kaylee; one sister, Marilyn Bottorff of South Bend; and two brothers, James (Alice) Kern of Phoenix, AZ, and Dwain (Audrey) Kern of New Carlisle.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM today, June 25, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 26, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home in South Bend, with Rev. Vickie Van Nevel officiating. Burial will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery.
