Robert E. Holdeman, Sr.

Dec. 31, 1921 - Jan. 25, 2000

Robert E. Holdeman, Sr., 78, of South Bend, Ind., passed away in New Port Ritchie, Fla., where he was wintering,.of natural causes on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Mr. Holdeman was born on Dec. 31, 1921, to Marvin and Edna (Mangus) Holdeman in Lakeville, Ind.

He is survived by his beloved companion, Doris Wilson of South Bend; a son, Robert E. Holdeman, Jr., and his wife, Eleanor of Osceola, Ind.; two daughters, Patricia McLaughlin and her husband, Thomas of Lake Grove, N.Y., and Rebecca Barnhart and her husband, David of South Bend; and by his four granddaughters, Amy Cavanaugh and her husband John, Jill Reppert and her husband Mike, all of South Bend, Dawn McLaughlin and Kristyn McLaughlin, both residing in Lake Grove.

Mr. Holdeman was preceded in death by his brothers, Merrit and Ralph Holdeman; his sister, Lucille Cowart; and by a granddaughter, Stacy Lannan.

Mr. Holdeman served his country in the Army during World War II as a tech sergeant in the 451st Airborne. He worked as a heat and frost insulator at the Cook Nuclear Power Plant, Bridgman, Mich., until retirement in 1987. Mr. Holdeman was a member of American Legion Post #303, VFW Post #1167, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #2083.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 21 at the mausoleum on the grounds of Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
