WALKERTON - Ocie Irene Holderread, 87, of 4795 Plymouth-LaPorte Trail, Walkerton, Indiana, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2007, at 2:30 a.m. in Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, Indiana. Irene was born on April 27, 1920, in Plymouth, Indiana, to John and Chloe (Ducket) Klinedinst.

 

Irene married Richard E. Holderread on December 17, 1938. She enjoyed crafting, quilting, crocheting, flowers, and gardening. She loved to travel and spent many winters in Florida. She was very active in the Blissville Church of the Brethren, where she had been member of since 1933. She was a member of the Old LaPorte Road Club until the club ended. Irene is survived by her husband, Richard; their daughter, Sharon (Wayne) LaFollette of Walkerton; her grandchildren; Lisa (Kurits) Vardman of Osceloa, Indiana, Rose (Robert) Tracy of South Bend, Indiana, and Gary (Lynn) LaFollette of Warsaw, Indiana; her great-grandsons, Brandon LaFollette, Tyler LaFollette, and Daniel LaFollette; and her great-granddaughters, Kristin LaFollette and Tori Tracy. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Irene and Richard also raised three foster children. Gloria (Fries) Hargarther and Richard Fries survive. She was preceded in death by her foster daughter, Katherine (Fries) Meyers; her sisters, Mable Welch, Mina Klinedinst, Clare Green, Inez Klinedinst, Edna Shaw, Tessie Oman and Mary Klinedinst; and her brothers, Ira, Ora, George, Glen, and Orville.

 

Services will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. in the Blissville Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Dester Cummins officiating. Burial will be at the Tyner Cemetery, Tyner, Indiana. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, and one hour prior to the service in the Church. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Blissville Church of the Brethren, 6250 Spruce Trail, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, or to the Alzheimers Association, P.O. Box 4204, South Bend, Indiana, 46601.
