Preston Lee Holmes

Dec. 11, 1930 -- Feb. 8, 2005

                                       

Preston Lee "Pep" Holmes, 74, went home to his Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 8. He was the son of James Holmes and Ruth (Sones) Holmes Bickel. He was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph County, leaving only for his service in the National Guard in 1949-1950.

Preston was a member of First Christian Church, Mishawaka. He worked for Bonnie Doon's in Mishawaka and for many years in the foundry at Clark's Metal Last. For the past several years he was manager of Oak Grove Mobile Home Park where he had resided with his wife, Roberta (Carlile) Holmes, since their marriage in 1983. A loving and dedicated husband and father, he was always willing to help someone in need if he could, and will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.

Along with his wife he is survived by his children, Greg Holmes of Thorntown, IN, Teresa Weber of Mishawaka, Scott Rinke of Mishawaka and Calvin Rinke of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Mandy Stillwell, Thorntown, IN, Jason Holmes, Lebanon, IN, T.J. Thompson and Brian Weber Jr. of Mishawaka; and three great-grandchildren, Tammy Stillwell, Thorntown, IN, Elise Holmes and Cody Holmes of Lebanon, IN. His only sister, Winifred Avery, lives in Mishawaka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, Wally Homes, South Bend, and Robert Hunter of Kokomo.

The funeral service will be at 7 p.m. today, Feb. 11, with visitation prior to the service from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Mishawaka, to Riley Children's Hospital, Indiana University Medical Center, or to a charity of choice.
