T. Benton Holmes, 87, of Carroll Street, South Bend, Ind., died Thursday, Jan. 9, after an illness. He retired from the Service Department of Sears Roebuck and Co. in 1973 after 25 years of service.

Ben was born Oct. 19, 1909, in Delphi, Ind.

On April 23, 1932, in Camden, Ind., he married Mabel Ruth Myer, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Helen Engle of Valrico, Fla.; a granddaughter, Kendra Joy Bailey of Dacula, Ga.; and a sister, Mary Long of Delphi, Ind. Three brothers preceded him in death, James A., Frank S., and Edward N. Holmes. He was a member of Crest Manor Church of the Brethren.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Camden. Memorials may be made to Crest Manor Church of the Brethren, or to the American Heart Association.
