Elsa L. Honer

January 17, 1936 – September 23, 2007

 

SOUTH BEND – Elsa L. Honer, 71, of South Bend, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at 7:10pm Sunday, September 23, 2007, in her home surrounded by family.

 

Elsa was born on January 17, 1936, to the late William and Madeline (Pauwels) Farrington.  On September 2, 1978, she married Gordon Honer.  Elsa is survived by her loving husband, Gordon, of South Bend; along with six children, Christine (Paul) Sherry of Osceola, Gary (Lori) Honer of Indianapolis, Diana (Kenneth) Koenig of Knox IN, Laura Clayton of Granger, William (Renee) Lewinski of Mishawaka and Lyn (Dennis Randall) Tavernier of Elkhart; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  She is also survived by a brother, Wayne (Alice) Farrington of South Bend; and a sister, Ilah (Larry) Alsop of North Vernon IN.

 

Elsa had been an area lifetime resident, graduating from South Bend Central High School in 1953.  She went on to achieve her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and taught elementary school in Fremont MI, and Swanson Elementary School in South Bend.  She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who was also an artist, painting her own Christmas cards every year.  She loved Easter and enjoyed watching the annual Easter egg hunt.

 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8pm Thursday, September 27, 2007, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola.  Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday, September 28, 2007, in the funeral home, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola
