Edgar L. Hooton, 78, of Johnson Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 10:43 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend.

He was born on May 7, 1918, in New Carlisle, Ind., and was a lifelong area resident. On June 28, 1941, in South Bend, he married Virginia M. Huston. She survives along with a daughter, Kathleen Gross and her husband, Herb, of St. Anne, Ill.; a son, Harold and his wife, Rita, of South Bend; several grand and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph J. Hooton of Paducah, Ky.

Mr. Hooton was a compositor for Art Craft Print Shop. He was a member of Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, of the Chain of Lakes Conservation Club, of American Legion Post 50, and of the Typographical Union 128.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Cremation will take place, with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, in the funeral home.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, 2404 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN 46628.
