SOUTH BEND - Malcolm E. ''Jack'' Horner, 82, of Laguna Hills, Calif., formerly of South Bend, died Wednesday in Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, Laguna Hills, of natural causes. Mr. Horner worked for the National Safety Council and was a former reporter for The Tribune. He was born Sept. 11, 1913, in Kokomo.

In 1938, he married Eleanor Von Hoene. She died in 1983. In 1984, he married Frances Mokede. She survives with two daughters, Holly Weese and Kay Fogarty; a son, Barry; a granddaughter; and a brother, Richard. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a graduate of DePauw University.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Forest Lawn-Cyprus (Calif.) Funeral Home handled arrangements.
