Francis A. Horning
April 24, 1912 - March 28, 2002

Francis A. "Fritz" Horning, 89, of Wellington Court, Mishawaka, Ind., formerly of Rockne Drive and East Colfax Avenue, died Thursday morning, March 28, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

Francis retired in 1971 from Bendix Corporation as a purchasing agent for 42 years, taught value engineering at Ivy Tech in South Bend, Ind., was an independent sales consultant for six years, and was a published poet.

He was born April 24, 1912, in Mishawaka, to Andrew and Bertha (Thallemer) Horning, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Francis Lee and Roger M. Horning; a sister, Elvira; and by a brother, John Horning. On Nov. 19, 1938, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, he married Doris C. Martin, who died May 23, 1986.

He is survived by a daughter, Janice Horning of Rochester, Ind.; a son, Patrick A. of Evanston, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Evelyn Horning of South Bend and Gerry Hennion of Mishawaka.

Francis was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Bendix Retirees, and was a graduate of South Bend Central High School.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson, 289-1000, where a prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m.
