John N. Horvath: (South Bend Tribune 10/25/2000)

Surrounded with the love and support of his family, John Nemeth Horvath, 77, passed from this life at 10:26 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2000. John was born to Teresa and Stephen Horvath on Jan. 29, 1923, in Green Township. He married Margaret M. (Maciejewski) Horvath on November 14, 1942, in South Bend, who survives him. In celebration of his life remain his son, Richard J. Horvath, his wife, Elizabeth M. (Kingston) Horvath, and their children, Richard Horvath of Indianapolis, Christine Horvath of Plymouth and Jodie Horvath of Charlotte, NC. Also his daughter, Judith A. Horvath of British Columbia, Canada, her husband, Charlie J. Eagle, and their daughter, Bree Eagle. Also his daughter, Susan J. Horvath of New Carlisle, and her husband, Dale A. Updike, and their children, Patrik Updike and Maggie Updike. He is also survived by a sister, Ann Horvath, and a brother, Alex Horvath, both of South Bend. John loved life and people and lived it to the fullest to his last days. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and St. Stan’s Usher’s Club, Over 50 Club, M.R. Falcons, PNA, Crumstown Conservation Club, Bowlers Country Club, American Legion #297  and the VFW of North Liberty. He worked at Studebakers, Drewrys, and as a janitor at the Crumstown School, and at the South Bend Water Works. John was the retired owner of Horvath’s Tavern, and was an avid hat collector. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, at the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, where a Rosary will be said at 5:00 p.m. On Thursday, October 26, at 10:00 a.m. Mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 55756 Tulip Road, New Carlisle, IN. Graveside services will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to be made to St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church or your favorite charity.
