Leona Arlene Horvath

Leona Arlene Horvath, 84, of 61789 Locust Road, South Bend, Ind., died on Tuesday, May 19, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. The daughter of Fred and Hazel Ruth (Garner) Watters, she was born on January 19, 1914, in South Bend.

 

She married Louis Carl Horvath, who preceded her in death on Friday, March 13, 1987. She is survived by a daughter, DeMariss J. (Lowell) Martin of Bremen, Ind.; and two sons, Louis P. Horvath of South Bend and William L. (Mary Lee) Horvath of Granger, Ind.; ten grandchildren, James L. (DeAnn) Martin of Bremen, William J. (Kathy) Horvath of Mishawaka, Ind., Judith A. (Gerrit) Brinkhoff of Bremen, Richard K. (Aldona) Martin of Bremen, Nancy J. (Kim) Cox of Plymouth, Ind., Daniel P. (Jackie) Horvath of South Bend, Alicia A. (Kurt) Webber of South Bend, Michael L. Horvath of Osceola, Ind., Sharon K. (Bruce) Jennings of Bremen, and Amanda L. Horvath of South Bend; and by thirteen great-grandchildren, Billie Jo Brinkhoff of Bloomington, Ind., Jacob and Adam Brinkhoff of Bremen, Martin ''Abe'' and Abby Jean Hundt of Plymouth, Jaclyn and Justin Jennings of Bremen, Cortney and Katie Horvath of Mishawaka, Erin Brantley and Benjamin Horvath of South Bend, Brison Martin of South Bend, and Britney Lyn Martin of Bremen.

 

She was an active member and volunteer of numerous organizations, including a charter member of Fraternal Order of Police #36 Auxiliary, holding several offices including State F.O.P. Auxiliary secretary; past president of Francis Comparet Coquillard Questers Chapter #78; Southhold Restoration, Inc.; South Bend Council of Camp Fire Girls, Inc., and the American Red Cross.

 

Services for Leona were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, in Bremen Cemetery Mausoleum, Bremen, with Pastor John Staples of New Life Christian Fellowship Church officiating. Guisinger Colonial Funeral Home, South Bend, handled the arrangements. Burial was in Bremen Cemetery.
