In your charity please remember in your prayers Father Albin Hosinski, CSC, 83, who died on Monday evening, Jan. 18, in Holy Cross House (The Works Hotel, South Bend, Ind.) Father Hosinski was born on June 24, 1915, in South Bend, Ind., a product of St. Hedwig's parish and grade school.

 

He attended Holy Cross Seminary at Notre Dame from 1930 until 1934, then entered St. Joseph's Novitiate, Rolling Prairie, Ind., where he professed his first vows on Aug. 16, 1935. After graduation from Notre Dame in 1939 he studied theology at Holy Cross College, Washington, D.C., and was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop John F. Noll at Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame, on June 24, 1943.

 

Fr. Hosinski spent his entire priestly life in pastoral work; as an assistant pastor at Holy Trinity Parish in Chicago, Ill., for ten years, later religious superior there; eight years as assistant at his home parish, St. Hedwig's, and at St. Stanislaus, South Bend; as assistant twice (1953-56 and 1968-75) and pastor (1975-79). From 1979 until 1983 he was assistant at Holy Cross parish, South Bend. He resided at Holy Cross Mission House, Notre Dame, from 1983 until 1994, while continuing to do sacramental ministry in the area. Since 1994, until his death, he lived at Holy Cross House, Notre Dame.

 

Fr. Hosinski is survived by three sisters, Marie (Charles) Magner and Helen Hosinski, both of South Bend, and Clara Muellner of Mishawaka, Ind.; three nieces, Mary (Ronald) Sine of Battle Creek, Mich., Anne Marie (Tony) Farrell of Lansing, Mich., and Mary Beth Brody of Edina, Minn.; five nephews, Michael (Denise) Magner of Arlington, Va., Patrick (Maureen) Magner of Oak Park, Ill., James (Debbie) Kleiser of South Bend, Joseph (Roseanne) Kleiser of Brookfield, Wis., and Frederick (Lesley) Kleiser of Cincinnati, Ohio; and by nine great-nieces and great-nephews. Fr. Hosinski was preceded in death by three sisters, Leonna Kleiser, Antoinette Brice and Dorothy Hosinski.

 

Viewing will be held from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today in the Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Burial will follow in the Community Cemetery. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Holy Cross House Renovation Fund, c/o Holy Cross House, P.O. Box 1048, Notre Dame, IN 46556. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
