William J. Hosler

June 23, 1913 - March 14, 2003

William J. "Red" Hosler, 89, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 10 p.m. Friday, March 14, in his residence.

William was born in Warren Township, Ind., on June 23, 1913, and was a lifelong area resident. William was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Sarah (Vollmer) Hosler; and by a daughter, Sandra Gallup on Feb. 27, 2002.

William was employed at Whitehall Laboratory in Elkhart, Ind., for 20 years, as a traffic manager, retiring in 1974. William was a 1932 graduate of Mishawaka High School where he excelled in playing football for Frank Steele. He received a scholarship to play football at St. Edward's University in Texas. He also played semi-professional football for the DeAmicis Club, and also played for the Chicago Cardinals. William loved playing golf, swimming, and fishing. On Nov. 23, 1939, in Mishawaka, William married Vera Mestach, who passed away on Nov. 18, 2002.

He is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Dennis) Seltzer of Mishawaka and Linda (Larry) Harris of Alameda, Calif.; six grandchildren, Francis Szalay, William Szalay, Sheila Szalay and Michele Roberts, all of South Bend, Ind., Julie Seltzer of Mishawaka and Brian (Jennifer) Seltzer of Elkhart; and by five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 am. Friday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N Main St., Mishawaka, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Ervin Mize will officiate the services. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
