SOUTH BEND - Dorothy "Dot" E. Hough, 84, of South Bend, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Dot was born June 7, 1924, in Vandalia, Michigan, a daughter of the late George and Mabel (Seidl) Bonine. She grew up on the family farm in the Vandalia area and was a graduate of Vandalia High School. Following high school, Dot moved to South Bend. She was employed many years at Studebaker Corporation and A.M. General.

 

Dot married Harley R. Hough, Sr., on June 16, 1973, and he preceded her in death in 1994. Dot and Harley enjoyed winters in Florida and summers at Lake Wawasee, where many special family memories were made. She was known for her delicious pies, homemade noodles and jam. Dot loved athletics and was an avid Michigan State fan. She was a former member of the Avalon Grotto and the Elk's. Dot's surviving family includes two step-sons, Harley (Sheryl) Hough Jr., of Osceola and Larry (Beverly) Hough of Lakeville; a sister, Allene King of South Bend; six grandchildren, Teresa (John) Schwelnus, Christine (Tom) Taylor, Jim Hough, Tami (Jack) Francis, Stephanie (Jeremy) Kuskye and Jennifer (Dave) Dunn; and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl Bonine; and two sisters, Jane Powers and Frances Wilson.

 

Friends may spend time with Dot's family Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third St., Mishawaka. Services will be held Saturday at 12 noon in the funeral home with Pastor Steve Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery, LaPorte. Memorials may be directed to the Military Honors Park at South Bend Regional Airport.
