SOUTH BEND - Wanda J. Houghton, age 82, of 53376 Wallace Lane, South Bend, Indiana, formerly of Plymouth, Indiana, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008, at 9:34 a.m. in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend. Wanda was born on March 26, 1926, in Plymouth, to Elnora (Brandt) Ward. She had been married to William Houghton Sr. Wanda was a caregiver for Pathfinders, in Plymouth, and had been an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. Wanda is survived by her daughters, Catherine and Michael Osowski of South Bend, Patricia and Gary Crum of Plymouth, and Marsha Martin of Plymouth; her son, Richard and Caryl Houghton of Indianapolis, Indiana; her grandchildren, Jonathan Houghton, Ted Houghton, Alex Houghton, Chris Houghton, Jeff Houghton, Mathew Houghton, Nicholas Crum, Lauren Crum, Nicole Osowski, David Osowski, Alexandra Osowski, Mary Osowski and David Milner; four great-grandchildren; her sisters, Florence Erickson of Plymouth, Phyllis Jernstrom of Plymouth, Donna Bennett of Arkansas and Norma Beatty of Texas. Wanda was preceded in death by her son, William Houghton Jr.; her mother, Elnora Ward; her sisters, Lillian Avon Ward and Thelma Scheetz; and by her brother, Thurman Ward.

Funeral services for Wanda will be held Friday, January 2, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in the Van Gilder Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steven Resner officiating. A time of visiting with the Houghton family will be on Thursday, January 1, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association or to the Ladies Auxiliary of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.
