MISHAWAKA - James Earl Hudgins, 71, of 803 S. Meridian St., died at 10:20 p.m. Monday in Regency Place, South Bend. Mr. Hudgins retired in 1989 from Hose Assembly after 37 years of service. He was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Paris, Tenn., and lived in South Bend for 38 years.

In 1946, in Mississippi, he married Nelle Marie Bowers. She died June 29, 1981. He is survived by a son, John E. of Mishawaka; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Sara Nelle Champine of Paris; and two brothers, Bobby and Harold, both of Paris. He was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bubb Funeral Chapel Downtown, 202 N. Main St. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
