Edward J. Huemmer

Edward J. Huemmer, 81, of East 3rd Street, Mishawaka, passed away suddenly at home on Monday, March 20, 2006. Edward was born on November 17, 1924, in Mishawaka, to Frank A. and Julia (Seeberger) Huemmer. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John, who died at birth. On May 4, 1946, in St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka, he married the former Alma Raes. Surviving Edward are his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Alma; two sons, James T. Huemmer of Australia and Joseph E. (Eleanor) Huemmer of Mishawaka; three grandchildren, Dawn Wright, Amy Cole and Heather Cole; two great-grandchildren, Corynne and Jakob; two sisters, Marianne (Charles) Rooney of Monroe, LA, and Eleanor (Bill) Stoeckinger of South Bend; three brothers, Thomas (Gloria) Huemmer of Houston, TX, Frank (Carole) Huemmer of Brecksville, OH, and John (Barbara) Huemmer of South Bend. Edward served in World War II with the United States Navy as a signalman 2nd class. He retired from Wheelabrator-Frye Corp. in 1982. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the Ushers Club, VFW Post #360, Wheelabrator Luncheon Group and the Democratic Club.

 

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, where military rites will be given by VFW Post #360/ American Legion 161 burial squad. Contributions may be made in memory of Edward to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
