Edwin L. Huffman

Nov. 23, 1924 - July 7, 1999

Edwin ''Eddie'' Leroy Huffman, 74 years old, residing at 201 N. Boles Ave., Osceola, co-owner with his son Mark of the O.C. Bowling Lanes, died at 11:42 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 1999, in his home after a brief illness. He was born on November 23, 1924, in Elkhart, IN, to the late Edwin Pete and Anna Agnes (Garberich) Huffman. Mr. Huffman married Maris A. Bultinck on July 12, 1947, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka.

A veteran of World War II, he served four years as a medic in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the St. Joe Valley Bowling Proprietors, the Elkhart Men's Bowling Association, Osceola American Legion Post 308, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, Mishawaka, and was a charter member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. For 12 years, 1976 to 1988, he was a member of the Osceola Town Board and chairman of the zoning and planning board and park department.

Survivors include his wife, Maris (Bultinck) Huffman; a daughter, Karen (Huffman) and Bill Peak of New London, N.C.; two sons, Dan and Linda (Houser) Huffman of Otisco, Ind., and Mark and Terry (Inks) Huffman of Osceola; his grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife, Lisa Peak of Raleigh, N.C., Jennifer (Peak) and her husband, Dr. Brett Niblack of Charlotte, N.C., Craig and his wife, Sherry Houser of Fort Hood, Texas, Michelle Bartoto of Ohio, Michael and Brian Huffman of Otisco, Nicholas, Tiffany and Bethannie Huffman of Osceola; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends are being received at the Palmer Funeral Home, 1109 Lincoln Way West in Osceola from 2 to 8 p.m. today, July 8, 1999, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Father Elden Miller will officiate. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 9, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial and graveside services will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Memorial contributions may be donated to the Queen of Peace School Endowment Fund, St. Joseph's Visiting Nurse Association, or to the American Cancer Society.
