Arthur W. Hughes, 66, of South Ironwood Drive in South Bend, Ind., died Saturday, April 5, in his residence following an illness. Arthur was born in Hammond, Ind., on Oct. 2, 1936, to Eugene D. and Gertrude (Wiggenfield) Hughes, who preceded him in death. He retired from N.I.P.S.C.O. in 1990 as a pipe mechanic after 25 years of service and was a member of the N.I.P.S.C.O. Social Club. Mr. Hughes married the former Shirley Brogdon in Mishawaka, Ind., on Sept. 30, 1977. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Kim Hughes of Kentucky; a son, Greg Hughes of Mishawaka; four stepdaughters, Diane (Bob) Everts of Mishawaka, Gladys Carroll of South Bend, Gail (Bill) Hallendy of Michigan and Carolyn (Jack) Wickizer of South Bend; and by a stepson, John (Becky) Robertson of South Bend. Among other survivors are 15 grandchildren, one great- grandchild and two sisters, Harriet Mays of Tennessee and Diane Rentz of Elkhart, Ind.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday with Rev.
