Glenn Harold Hughes

Glenn Harold Hughes, 77, of Chicago Trail, New Carlisle, Ind., died Sunday evening, Jan. 27, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. He retired in 1989 as a millwright for Sibley's Foundry for 43 years. He was born July 21, 1924, in Estelle City, Ky. He lived in the South Bend, Mill Creek and North Liberty areas for 70 years after coming from Kentucky.

 

On April 2, 1942, in South Bend, Ind., he married Doris Fay Fritz, who survivies. He is also survived by five daughters, Janis Hughes-Madden of South Bend, Alana Kinsey of Deer Park, Texas, Shauna McCormick of Granger, Ind., Evon Vitale of New Carlisle and Glynae McKee of Marion, Ind.; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alberta Snyder of St. Petersburg, Fla., Garnett Kelly of Mill Creek, Ind., Delores Zerby of Pueblo, Colo.; and by a brother, John Hughes Jr. of North Liberty.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Gamble of Fairfield, Ohio, and Mary Baker of Etna Green, Ind.

 

Glenn was a World War II Army sergeant, serving with the 100th Highway Transport Division, serving in New Guinea and Luzon, and was discharged in December 1945.

 

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road (289-1000), with Brother Clinton Douglas of Eddy St. Church of Christ officiating. Burial will take place at Mill Creek Cemetery in Sauktown, Ind. Friends may call one hour prior to services in the funeral home.

 

He was a member of American Legion Post 161, Mishawaka, who will conduct military rites following the ceremony in the funeral home.
