Lester A. Humes

June 28, 1929 - April 14, 2001

Lester A. Humes, 71, of Edison Road, passed away on Saturday, April 14, at home with his family at his bedside. The son of the late Joseph and Tracy (Dunkelbarger), Mr. Humes was born on June 28, 1929, in Stark County. On March 24, 1972, he was united in matrimony to May Sikorski. The survivors include his wife and children who are Michael (Donna) Humes of Granger, Jackie (Jeff) Nixon of Glenwood, Illinois, Kathi (Mike) Golubski of South Bend, Roger (Nadine) Sikorski of Eagle River, Alaska; and a daughter-in-law, Shirl Humes. Grandchildren are Austin and Brandon Humes of California, Shawn Jenkins of California, Pam, Bill (Debbie) and Traci Ruscio, Mary (James) Payne and Lisa Golubski. Les was also blessed with four great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his son, Adam Humes in 1991. Also preceding him in death were six brothers, two sisters, and his former wife, Colleen. Les was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Greenland during the Korean War. He retired in 1983 after 30 years at Bendix Brake Division. Les attended Beaver Creek Wesleyan Church in North Liberty. Les loved living in the country, gardening, just tinkering, and being at home with his family. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437; or to Beaver Creek Wesleyan Church. Family and friends may call in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, from 2 to 8 p.m. today, April 17, 2001. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, at 11 a.m. in the St. Joseph Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Culver Masonic Cemetery, Culver, Ind.
