William E. Hummer

OSCEOLA -- William E. Hummer, 74, of Osceola, died at 2:20 a.m. Friday (March 2, 2007), in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. He was born Feb. 19, 1933, in South Bend to Marvin and Ina (Gelnett) Hummer.

 

On Aug. 9, 1952, in Mishawaka he married Elizabeth Ann Lambert. She survives along with three sons, William D. (Linda) Hummer of Mishawaka, John E. (Cindy) Hummer and Scott D. (Natalie) Hummer, both of Osceola; one daughter, Patricia A. (Mick) Martin of Osceola; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack (Bev) Hummer of Osceola; and one sister, Pauline Leach of South Bend. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Hummer and Everett Calvert; and one sister, Bea Ferrance.

 

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home, 1109 Lincolnway W., Osceola, where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Jim Toole of Osceola United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, where the Osceola American Legion will render military rites. Memorials may be sent to Salvation Army.

 

Mr. Hummer was formerly employed at Hillview Dairy in South Bend, Bud Wedly Motors and Schneider Auto Sales in Osceola. He retired from Sears in Elkhart. Mr. Hummer was a life member of the American Legion 308 in Osceola. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. An army veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1951. He also enjoyed washing cars.
