James E. Hunsberger

Aug. 4, 1928 -- April 17, 2005

                                       

James E. Hunsberger, 76, of Bremen Highway, Mishawaka, passed away at 10:32 a.m. Sunday, April 17, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

James was born on Aug. 4th, 1928, in Mishawaka, to the late Elmer and Nora (Schalliol) Hunsberger. A brother, Omer Hunsberger, preceded James in death.

On Aug. 20, 1950, in St. John United Church of Christ, Woodland, he married the former Dolores M. Weigel. James is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years Dolores; three children, Michael (Pam) Hunsberger of Bremen, Cheryl (Jerry) Burks of Mishawaka and Laurel (Pat) Ballinger of Branson, MO; four grandchildren, Heather (Theodore) Stevens, Holly Hunsberger, Casey and Carly Orosz; and a brother, Donald of Wyatt, IN.

James was a lifetime area resident. He was a dairy farmer for over 50 years and was a school bus driver for 46 years for the PHM school district, the longest driver ever at that time. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ where he was a member of the church choir. He was a member of the St. Joseph County Dairy Association and he attended all Penn High School football and basketball games until his illness.

James supported and guided his children and grandchildren through over 40 years of 4-H projects. He was a kind, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. James will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him but will never be forgotten.

Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 19, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, in St. John United Church of Christ, Woodland, where there will be visitation one hour prior to the service in the church, with Rev. Kenneth Seiffertt, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, SR 331, Woodland, IN.
