Bonnie J. Hurley

 Feb. 25, 1949 - April 7, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Bonnie J. Hurley passed away in Colorado Springs, CO Wednesday, April 7, 2010 after a brief illness. She was born February 25, 1949 in South Bend, IN to Shirley and Walter Zultanski. Bonnie first met the love of her life, Mark Steven Hurley, when they were 8 years old. They were school mates at Harrison Elementary School and Washington High School. While serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, Mark received orders for Viet Nam and spent his leave time in South Bend where he renewed his friendship with Bonnie. They fell in love. Following Mark's discharge from the Army, were married on May 20, 1972 and had 3 wonderful children; Shannon (Ben Eisen) of Los Angeles, CA, Sean of Kansas City, KS, and Ryan (Laurel) currently serving on active duty with the Army in Iraq. Bonnie loved music and performed as a professional singer for many years while juggling her role as a wife, mother and working for the United States Postal Service for over 26 years. Her daughter, Shannon, continues the family tradition as a singer/song writer. Bonnie brightened everyone's day just being around her. Her upbeat personality made being with her a joy. She was a very caring person who put the needs of others first. Bonnie enjoyed a very happy and full filling life. TRIBUTE FROM HER SISTER My sister, my best friend. We have had so much fun through the years. As children we were together constantly, playing outside with our friends from morning until late night. Making mud pies, playing hide and go seek, hopscotch, twirling our batons with mother providing the accompaniment on her accordion, riding our bicycles, jumping rope, sitting on a blanket in our yard on a beautiful sunny, summer afternoon playing with our dolls, catching lightning bugs, jumping in mud puddles in front of our house after a summer rain, our back yard talent shows, kool-aid stands, ice skating and walking home with our ice skates on with our frozen toes. We started singing together when you were only 5 years old, and you had the hard part because you sang the harmony. How did you do that? You were right on key and sang perfect harmony. You were so amazing. For years we sang in talent shows all over Indiana and Michigan, and performed songs that mother wrote for us, at so many functions. Both of us ended up singing with bands all over the area, at times singing together with these bands. Through our school years we were always together. Living in a two bedroom house meant we shared a bedroom as well as a clothes closet, often trading clothes. You were the maid of honor at my wedding and I was the matron of honor at your wedding. We were together as we raised our children. What fun we had. Our children were fortunate to have the opportunity to spend so much time together. These recent years have kept us apart due to living in separate states, but the times we were able to see one another during those years meant the world to me, as well as our two hour phone conversations which always only seemed like minutes. We are truly so much alike. I have always had the utmost respect and love for you. We have never been angry with one another because we have never had a disagreement through all these years. I will love and miss you always Bonnie. Our special bond and incredible memories will go on forever. Bonnie is survived by her father, her husband, her children, and her sister, Carol (Chuck) Copley. She was preceded in death by her mother. Services will be held from 12:00-3:00 PM, Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Hahn's Funeral Home in Mishawaka, IN.
