Estella Husband

SOUTH BEND - Mother Estella (Plump) Husband, 94, a resident of Byron Street, South Bend, Indiana, made her earthly departure at 5:23 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. Estella's life began on September 24, 1915, in Sunflower, Mississippi, when she was born to Wash and Maggie (Thomas) Plump. On November 24, 1935, in Sunflower, she and Wayman Husband were united in wedlock. In 1942, coming from Sunflower, they moved to South Bend. Wayman preceded her in death on February 18, 1974. For over 60 years Mother Husband was a faithful member of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, being one of its original members. She served as president of the Mothers Board, a member of the Missionary Board, Ushers Board and Pastor's Aid. One of her favorite pleasures was reading, especially the scriptures. She enjoyed nature programs and spending time with her family. Mother Husband leaves a cherished family of six daughters, Elizabeth (Charles) Howell, Mary Watkins, Ruth (Rodney) Martin and Victoria Husband, all of South Bend, Betty (Albert) Kingsberry of Pomona, California, and Barbara Tucker of Phoenix, Arizona; five sons, Joseph Husband, Wayman (Gail) Husband Jr. and James (Rosalind) Husband, all of South Bend, George (Alberta) Husband of Summerfield, Florida, and Rex (Angela) Husband of Detroit, Michigan; 56 grandchildren, one very special grandson, Jerry Husband of South Bend, whom she raised; 80-plus great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and her church family. Loved ones who preceded her in death include her parents, Wash and Maggie Plump; her husband, Wayman Husband; two daughters, Martha Wade and Nellie Husband; two sisters, Nancy Little and Grace Taylor; and four brothers, George Plump, Isaiah Plump, James Plump and Wash Plump Jr. The HomeGoing Celebration for Mother Estella Husband will be held at 10:00 am. Saturday, January 16, 2010, in Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, with Superintendent Jesse Hodges officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Alford's Mortuary where arrangements have been entrusted.
