Rachel A. Husvar, 69, of Silver Maple Court, South Bend, died Friday, Oct. 25, at 10 p.m. in her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born May 23, 1927, in Huntsville, Ala. She had lived most of her life in South Bend.

 

On Nov. 22, 1947, in South Bend, as Rachel Walker, she married Donald J. Husvar, . . . her wish to join her beloved Don was fulfilled as she had expressed since his death on June 3, 1996. She is survived by a son, Floyd L. Husvar of Richmond, Ind., a daughter, Cheryl (Zanotti) Speheger and a son-in-law, Keith Speheger of Granger; a granddaughter, Rachel Zanotti of Granger; two brothers, Kenneth Walker of South Bend and Harold Walker of Champaign, Ill. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

 

Mrs. Husvar was a graduate of Central High School. Her career started and ended in banking. She became the first woman to be made an officer of St. Joseph Bank and resigned from that position in the mortgage loan department in declining health with 25 years of service.

 

Funeral services wil be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive. Rev. Thomas Shoemaker of St. Matthews Cathedral will officiate. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home where a wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
